Mount Hitam Hike

Gunung Hitam, or “Black Mountain,” is an intense challenge known among hikers as the perfect training ground for Malaysia’s toughest peaks. This hike in Hulu Langat, Selangor, is defined by its relentless, “calf-shredding” inclines that leave little room to catch your breath. Due to its challenging nature and proximity, it’s also known as Mini Gunung Nuang.
The hike takes you through a Permanent Forest Reserve with dense jungle and a beautiful bamboo forest at the begining of the hike. In the middle section, there will be some large rock areas to provide some rest areas. As you ascend, you will encounter a series of ropes and natural obstacles that test your strength and determination. The route is characterised by a continuous steep climb, with steep angles reaching up to 70 degrees in some sections. The footing is extremely challenging on wet and muddy ground, especially after rain. The aid of nylon ropes, which are periodically installed, is required to stabilise the balance on the most slippery and steep segments. While the summit may not offer the expansive vistas of other mountains, the sense of accomplishment you feel after conquering the brutal elevation gain is a reward in itself. For this hike, It is compulsory to get a qualified MGP guide and climbing permit from the Selangor State Forestry Department.
