Bukit Kutu Hike

Bukit Kutu is a mountain located near Kuala Kubu Baru, Selangor along the main road to Fraser’s Hill. Standing at 1,053 meters, it was once known as a colonial hill station named "Treacher’s Hill", before being overshadowed by the more popular Bukit Fraser. Despite being referred to as “Bukit”, which translates to “Hill” in Malay, the hike takes about 3 to 4 hours, featuring some steep sections.
During the war, it was bombed by the Japanese and subsequently left to nature, causing the access road (once used for cart rail) to become overgrown with thick vegetation. Currently, the remnants of the bungalows that once had a view of the lush valley consist of a chimney, fireplace, and a well (which still collects water), along with the stone walls on the opposite side of the ridge. On weekends, it becomes a favored climbing destination, offering stunning views of the Titiwangsa mountain range and the Kuala Kubu Bharu dam at its summit.
The hike up Bukit Kutu (which takes 2 to 4 hours depending on pace) starts from an Orang Asli village at the base; make a right turn at the sign for Kampung Pertak after the Sungai Selangor Dam, if you are coming from the town of Kuala Kubu Bharu. Proceed along the paved road past contemporary Aborigine homes as it follows the Sungai Pertak river, where the route transitions to gravel. Continue until reaching the culmination at the river junction with a suspension bridge. Follow the 4WD path until it encounters another river segment with a partly submerged bridge; cross it and continue along the trail until reaching a serene river section. Wade across and take the first left turn until reaching a fork; turn right, and the path will be clearly marked beyond this point, steeply ascending after crossing all the stream sections.
